Merlot

This variety of the Bordeaux region has become increasingly popular in the past 30years because it is more productive than the Cabernet Sauvignon, and its soft wine may be drunk younger. Merlot-based wines usually have medium body with hints of berry, plum, and currant.
A vigorous, productive variety, Merlot buds out early. The grapes ripen midseason and the leaves redden partially in the fall.
